Content is King

The search engine ranking algorithm has a host of factors from the domain, server, architecture, pages, links, code and content. But it is important to note that there are some top factors that you can influence one of which is content. Content of your website has an impact and influence on how your website is indexed by search engines. Poor content leads to a poor rank on search engines, poor quality score in pay per click campaigns, and poor experience for the user.

Death of Meta Data…Not

Many website developers have mentioned that meta data—keywords and descriptions—is dead. It is true that content is king but meta is still queen. Instead of thinking that meta is useless, utilize it to your advantage for images, video and achieving that extra mileage on your website for search engine purposes.

Reciprocal linking has been relevant and will always be relevant to search engine ranking. Linking shows the relevance of your website internally and externally. So when you think of linking you must remember all link factors and implement inbound links, outbound links, backlinks and internal cross links on your website.

Social Networking

Social networking has graduated past simple networking on Facebook. As users engage and live their lives online there is more opportunity to reach them via this online world. Instead of simply thinking of social networking as separate from your website combine it with your website so your users engage with you, your product and in their life. Google+ has the formula and all else will follow.

Penalties

There are some tricks of the search engine ranking trade that just do not fly. Cliff notes never really allowed you to ace the test and neither will taking short cuts with your website. In fact, shortcuts will get you penalties and negative marks that will hurt your ranking. These negative marks are not as easy to erase as it is to obtain them. So, stick to the rules and your website will do fine.

Remember that the past and the future of search engine marketing will always collide. From Content to PageRank to Social Signals it is imperative to monitor your site, engage your users with rich and relevant content and make improvements often.

2011 was a banner year for Keos Marketing Group. We have continued to sustain clients such as Forest City Stapleton and aid them with not only optimizing their website but integrating keywords into other marketing tactics such as social media posts and blogging for increased search engine ranking. We have obtained new clients such as Xpedx and assisted them with a strategic a keyword list for pay-per-click promotional campaigns. We have assisted non-profits such as the Five Points Business District to elevate its brand. And we have had a blast with all of it!

During all of this our principal, Keo Frazier, has been missing in action (MIA). Where has she been? She has been instrumental in elevating the brand of Metropolitan State College of Denver (Metro State) by creating key messages and guiding creative materials as their interim Senior Director of Marketing. You will see these efforts in the Denver metro area marketplace from outdoor media (billboards and street banners), RTD Light Rail wraps, print media (Denver Broncos Yearbook, Denver Business Journal, Colorado Biz Magazine, 5280, Westword and the Chronicle for Higher Education), online media from the upgrade of the website (mscd.edu) to social media networking to online banner ads, and broadcast media (television CBS4, 9News KUSA, Rocky Mountain PBS, Univision and radio KCEC 96.5 FM). Now that is a mouthful and a lot of work in 9 short months.

Marketing landing pages for Metro State—we educate Colorado campaign.

Metro State Faculty Success

As our talented principal’s role continues to morph and expand beyond the virtual brick and mortar of Keos Marketing Group we will continue to share all of our successes. We will bring new knowledge in the world of integrative digital marketing where traditional media infuses with online media to create an interactive marketplace. So, in 2012, visit often and share the information with your networks.

“Denver the beautiful, blest be her name. Hearts of her subjects with pride are aflame. Crowned with bright glory that never can wane. Denver the Queen of the Mountain and Plain” – Denver Municipal Facts, 1910

The storefront initiative began as a vision by Hyperform Design Co-op to fill the vacant window spaces of downtown Denver with activity, liveliness and beauty while educating and inspiring the community. With this vision, Hyperform Design Co-op involved Keos Marketing Group to actualize the vision by creating and executing a window installation plan for the storefront initiative.

The vision began with the first installation titled Architecture of the Americas. Keos Marketing Group with Hyperform Design Co-op and the Denver Theatre District implemented the Architecture of the Americas project inspired by the Biennial of the Americas. This project was implemented during the time of the Biennial and thus the source of the inspiration and the theme of the visual display. This project is on display at the Convention Center on the corner of 14th and Champa Street. The artwork layout was designed by Crystal Hatch and the project management and vision of the execution was led by Keo Frazier, both part of the team of Keos Marketing Group. The Denver Theatre District printed the display and Hyperform Design Co-op installed the artwork to see a vision completed.

Architecture of the Americas on display at the Convention Center (Corner of 14th and Champa)

Modern Architecture on display at the Denver Pavilions (Unit 124)

The vision continued with the second installation titled Modern Architecture. This theme was inspired by April’s Architecture Month and the annual Doors Open Denver program. Again the project was led by Keos Marketing Group with the print and installation implemented by the Pavilions and Hyperform Co-op carrying the torch of the vision. The second initiative brought in more partnerships to collaborate and move it forward. Additional partners include the American Institute of Architects Denver, the Downtown Denver Partnership and Doors Open Denver.

The purpose and benefits of this initiative include 1) maintaining the vision of “The City Beautiful”; 2) creating an attractiveness to vacant storefronts that draw attention for potential leasers or buyers; 3) providing a medium that educates and inspires individuals in our community by our community. You can view the current designs at the Pavilions and at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Enjoy and be inspired!

The current and past partners of the storefront initiative include AIA Denver, Hyperform Design Co-op, Keos Marketing Group, the Denver Theatre District, Doors Open Denver, the Downtown Denver Partnership and the Pavilions. Each partner brings their expertise to the vision of the storefront initiative and is an integral part in executing the window installation plan. The role of current and potential partners is outlined below.

Marketing your business is the one thing that you must continue to do regardless of the economy. Here is an exercise for you to think about how you can market your company through resources you already have and use.

1. How much is a business lead worth in a dollar amount to you?

2. How many contacts do you have through all of your modes of networking and communication?

Mobile Phone #,###

Computer Email #,###

Facebook #,###

LinkedIn #,###

Business Cards #,###

Other #,### What is your other mode of networking? ____________

3. How much is your list worth in a dollar amount? $ ___________ . ____

4. How many times a month do you communicate with your contacts (general communication about your business)?

5. If you have a website for your business, what do you want it to do for you? Is your website accomplishing your goals?

After completing this exercise ask yourself how you can reconnect with all of your networks through social media networking, email marketing, and through your website. Are you doing enough? Are you capitalizing on your current contacts and your current resources?

The list stops at twenty, but feel free to add your own interesting facet for inclusion in our blog community. Have fun!
